Back in 2008, Aliyaa made its debut, etching an indelible mark on Kuala Lumpur’s culinary landscape as the city’s pioneering Sri Lankan restaurant. Tucked away in the upscale Bukit Damansara neighbourhood, it soon captured the hearts of discerning food enthusiasts, enchanting them with a celebration of Sri Lanka’s heritage.
The restaurant’s success is rooted in a compilation of authentic recipes that have been handed down through generations of Sri Lankan families – specifically Dr. Parvathy Kanthasamy. These time-honoured recipes dish out a genuine and rich taste of Sri Lankan cuisine.
Each day, the restaurant’s team of chefs – led by Executive Chef Siva Suppaiya – meticulously prepare dishes using fresh ingredients.
Best known for his Sri Lankan crab curry, Suppaiya has been with Aliyaa since its inception. Over the years, he’s cooked his soulful Sri Lankan dishes for royalty, presidents, celebrities and regular patrons who visit the restaurant.
He strives to serve the best of Sri Lankan cuisine to guests and the restaurant captures the taste buds of food enthusiasts with its diverse offerings – such as Jaffna-style crab curry, Suppaiya’s Mutton Varuval and the Aliyaa Experience (a set menu for two featuring a four course meal with signature dishes such as crab samosa, Atukkal Rasam, Prawn Varuval, devilled chicken and mutton curry among others, and Sweet Appam as a dessert).
The Jaffna-style crab curry showcases the region’s passion for spices and seafood, bringing together the delectable taste of fresh crabs with a harmonious blend of aromatic spices.
Aliyaa also has space for events for those seeking an indulgent Sri Lankan fine dining experience in a serene and sophisticated ambience. With black and white table settings complemented by warm and gentle lighting, the interior sets the stage for unforgettable dining moments.
Last year, the Michelin Guide awarded Aliyaa a Bib Gourmand.
