Sri Lankan scientist Themiya Nanayakkara has co-authored research identifying the oldest fast radio burst yet recorded, a signal that travelled for more than 10 billion years before reaching Earth. Published in Science, the discovery used South Africa’s MeerKAT radio telescope and NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to trace the burst to a galaxy that existed around three billion years after the Big Bang.
