Agro Ventures Plantations and Agro Ventures Exports were founded with the vision to revolutionise Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector, inspired by innovative practices observed in countries such as Japan, Indonesia and India.
Chairman and Managing Director Nilanga Karunarathne’s transformative experiences overseas highlighted the potential for agriculture to drive economic growth and elevate national pride. This insight, combined with Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, spurred the creation of a business aimed at generating US$1 billion in exportincome by 2030.
The company focussed on cultivating vanilla; and it has since expanded into a range of vanilla based products including extracts, pastes, powders and skincare items.
Agro Ventures became Sri Lanka’s largest vanilla exporter by 2022 and opened The Vanilla Shop in Battaramulla with plans for global expansion.
Meanwhile, Agro Ventures Plantations’ growth is rooted in innovation with advancements in agro tech, sustainability, and diversification into high value crops such as organic herbs and essential oils. Agro Ventures has integrated precision farming, environmental responsibility and global partnerships, to enhance productivity and expand its market reach.
With a focus on the wellness sector, Agro Ventures is introducing organic ice cream and baked products. The company is also investing in agro tourism, including a US$ 500 million fruit and spice estate, which is set to become Sri Lanka’s largest.
Agro Ventures aims to transform Sri Lankan agriculture into a model of global leadership by focussing on sustainability and empowerment.
By empowering farmers and establishing fair trade practices, the company hopes to create lasting societal change. Its legacy will not only be defined by economic success but its impact on communities, the environment and the global agriculture landscape.
