The terminal welcomed its first passenger some weeks ago as Tom Cruise landed there
The long-awaited opening of the new Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal is set to take place in the coming months with an official ceremony hoping to coincide with National Day celebrations on 2 December.
Construction on this state-of-the-art complex began in 2012 and was expected to take five years to complete. However, after suffering from some complications and setbacks along the way, the terminal is due to open in four months time.
The new AED 10.8 billion terminal will provide a boost to Etihad passengers with up to 11,000 guests availing of the facilities per hour and a whopping 30 million passengers on an annual basis.
There are also cutting-edge features involved including infrastructure advancements and a road tunnel connecting the midfield and existing terminals making life easier for passenger transfer along the way.
The terminal welcomed its first passenger some weeks ago as Tom Cruise of the Mission Impossible franchise landed there. The actor was in the capital recording and promoting the latest movie in the action-packed series.
Hopes are high that the facility will be fully operational in early December, with the aim of making life easier for all those who want to travel during the winter holiday weeks.
