Australia’s cricketers jubilantly hoisted the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in Ahmedabad on 19 November, marking their sixth triumph in the 50-over format. In a stellar display, Australia – led by Pat Cummins – achieved a remarkable double by earlier clinching the ICC World Test Championship. The Aussies also retained the coveted Ashes in England.
Emerging as a revered all format leader, Cummins orchestrated the team’s success. Travis Head, the standout performer, earned ‘Player of the Match’ honours in both the World Test Championship and World Cup finals against India. Australia’s legacy for delivering under pressure shone brightly as they conquered India on their home turf, silencing some 100,000 spectators in the world’s largest cricket stadium.
Coincidentally, our cover personality Dav Whatmore picks Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins as his favourite captain of the tournament in this edition’s feature article.
