Melbourne based Sri Lankan swimmer Akalanka Peiris broke the national record in the 50m backstroke twice on 1 October, clocking 24.45 seconds in the heats and 24.35 seconds in the final. He then set another national record in the 100m individual medley on 2 October, finishing in 55.55 seconds at the Australian Nationals.
