Driven by dreams
My journey is one of relentless determination, breaking barriers and representing my country with pride on the road to Formula 1

He is a 17 year old racing driver with a lifelong passion for motorsport. He grew up in Sri Lanka and discovered a love for speed and competition at just five – and a year later, he was already karting.
Racing has been in Yevan David’s blood ever since.
“My journey has taken me from karting to competing internationally, including in prestigious series like the FIA Karting European Championship. Recently, I made history as the first Sri Lankan to achieve multiple wins in a major single seater series at the iconic Monza circuit in Italy,” he adds.
Off the track, his time is mostly spent with family. And he enjoys basketball, golf, padel and surfing, although Yevan’s focus remains clear: “To become the first Formula 1 driver from Sri Lanka.”

My journey in motorsports began at the age of six, when I first experienced go-karting at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama
Q: Can you share your journey from karting at six years old to where you are now in Formula 4?
A: My journey in motorsports began at the age of six, when I first experienced go-karting at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama. The thrill of that initial drive ignited a passion that has only grown stronger over the years.
After returning to Singapore a year later, we invested in a go-kart; and the weekends were dedicated to honing my skills. In 2015, at just seven years old, I ventured into professional racing, starting in Singapore and gradually expanding to other parts of Asia.
My early career saw me competing across Asia and even participating in a few races in Italy. The years 2018 and 2019 were pivotal as I raced in both Australia and Asia. However, the pandemic brought a halt to racing in 2020.
Undeterred, I resumed full-time racing in Europe in 2021, focussing on go-karting before eventually making the giant leap to Formula 4 in 2024.
Q: What inspired you to pursue motorsports – and who has been your primary influence in the sport?
A: The inspiration to pursue motorsports struck at a very young age, fuelled by my passion for watching Formula 1. The sheer exhilaration of driving captivated me more than anything else.
Among the icons of the sport, Lewis Hamilton stood out as a role model alongside the unwavering support of my parents. However, it was the pure joy and freedom I felt behind the wheel that truly motivated me to chase my dreams in motorsports.
Q: How did growing up as a Sri Lankan living overseas shape your approach to racing?
A: Growing up as a Sri Lankan abroad offered a unique perspective, especially in a sport where few Sri Lankans compete internationally.Racing in diverse regions such as Asia, Australia and Europe allowed me to represent Sri Lanka on the global stage. This experience not only broadened my horizons but also challenged perceptions about our presence in motorsports, which I found incredibly rewarding.
Q: Winning the Euroformula Open in 2024 was a historic moment for Sri Lanka. What does this achievement mean to you personally and for motorsports in this country?
A: It was an unforgettable milestone, particularly given the challenges of that season.
Transitioning from Formula 4 to Euroformula and clinching two victories at the prestigious Autodromo Nazionale Monza was a dream come true.
Hearing Sri Lanka’s national anthem play on such a revered track filled me with immense pride. This achievement not only marked a personal triumph but also set a historic precedent for Sri Lankan motorsports, showcasing our potential on the international stage.
Q: Reflecting on your karting career, what lessons did you carry forward into single seater racing?
A: Karting served as an invaluable foundation, teaching me numerous lessons that have shaped my approach to single seater racing.
One of the most significant takeaways was the importance of self-belief. Despite possessing speed and talent, I often struggled with confidence. Learning to trust in my abilities was crucial and this mindset has been instrumental in my progression to higher levels of racing.
It was the pure joy and freedom I felt behind the wheel that truly motivated me to chase my dreams in motorsports

Success is not just about winning but also about the journey of growth and learning

Q: How did you prepare for your debut in Formula 4 – and what were the main challenges in making that transition?
A: Preparing for my Formula 4 debut required rigorous physical and mental conditioning. The Euroformula car demands a high level of physical fitness due to the intense G-forces involved.
Mentally, adapting to new cars, tracks and varying weather conditions – particularly wet races – was a major challenge. However, meticulous preparation ensured that I was ready to face these hurdles, making the transition both challenging and exhilarating.
Q: As the first Sri Lankan (born in the UK) to achieve such success in international motorsports, how do you feel about being a role model for young athletes here at home?
A: It’s an incredible honour to be seen as a role model for young Sri Lankan athletes.
Knowing that my journey can inspire others to pursue their dreams in motorsports is deeply fulfilling. Sri Lanka has immense untapped talent and I hope to pave the way for the next generation, offering them the guidance and opportunities needed to succeed on the world stage.
Q: What was it like competing at an event that showcases talent from across the world – and how did it prepare you for other international races?
A: Competing in Europe, the birthplace of racing, against top talent from around the world, was both challenging and enriching. The level of competition was intense with participants from South America, Australia and beyond.
Starting my karting career in Asia and then moving to Europe in 2021 exposed me to the highest levels of competition, greatly strengthening my readiness for international races in single seaters.
My ultimate goal is to reach Formula 1 within the next four to five years
Q: And what are your goals for the upcoming seasons in Formula 4 and beyond?
A: I will be moving on from Formula 4 this year; and my primary goal is to excel in the Euroformula Open Championship, aiming to win as many races as possible and ultimately clinch the championship.
Beyond that, my focus remains on continuous improvement and pushing my limits. Success is not just about winning but also about the jouney of growth and learning.
Q: Do you see yourself competing in higher categories like Formula 3 or 2 – and even F1 – in the future? If so, your road map is…?
A: My road map is clear. I aim to progress to FIA Formula 3 next year and then move on to Formula 2. My ultimate goal is to reach Formula 1 within the next four to five years.
With dedication, hard work and support from my sponsors and fans, I’m confident that this vision can become a reality. I’d particularly like to thank Mercstop for supporting me last year.
Q: Many young Sri Lankans look up to you as a pioneer in motorsports. What advice would you offer to aspiring racers who dream of following in your footsteps?
A: My advice to aspiring racers is simple – pursue your dreams with unwavering determination.
Regardless of your current circumstances, there are opportunities out there. Hard work, perseverance and a clear focus on your goals will pave the way to success.
Q: How do you stay connected with your Sri Lankan roots while living and competing overseas?
A: Staying connected to my Sri Lankan roots is incredibly important to me. During the off-season, I spend quality time in Sri Lanka with my family – especially my grandparents.
I also take the opportunity to relax and explore the beautiful southern regions, reconnecting with friends and the vibrant culture. This connetion keeps me grounded; it reminds me about where I come from.
