Solo travel

Sri Lanka has been named the ‘most popular solo travel destination in the world’ for 2025, in adventure travel company Flash Pack’s latest trends report. The report reveals a surge in solo travel – and it notes that solo travellers are growing older and increasingly drawn to Asian destinations.

The island nation’s unique blend of rich cultural heritage, breathtaking beaches and lush tea plantations has propelled it to the top spot, rising from fourth place in 2024.

“Google searches for solo travel have skyrocketed by 223 percent over the past decade, the report notes, adding: “The trend is undeniable. Leading the charge are women who make up 70 percent of Flash Pack’s travellers.”

Flash Pack’s three ‘most popular trips booked for 2025’ are as follows.

Long vacations

The island has also been ranked among the ‘Top Destinations for Longer Vacations.’

A study by Ubuy – the international online shopping platform – ranks Vietnam as the best country for longer vacations with a score of 64.313. It is followed by neighbouring India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka (with a score of 42.283).

Sri Lanka “is notable for its high density of UNESCO sites, offering eight sights within a compact area,” the report says.

The study analysed more than 100 countries to determine the best destinations for longer vacations, evaluating factors such as affordability, cultural richness, safety and travel convenience.

Asian nations feature prominently on the list with as many as seven of the top 10 destinations for longer vacations.
