The US$ 120 million marina development at the Port City Colombo kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony on 10 January, which was attended by state officials, and dignitaries representing joint venture partners Browns Investments, LOLC Holdings and China Harbour Engineering Corporation (CHEC).
A state-of-the-art high end marina is to be built on a 3.1 hectare site, which will cater to luxury yachts with a capacity to service 250 vessels; and it will become the only full service marina in the region.
Guest clubs and upscale restaurants, event facilities, retail outlets and recreation spaces will form part of the new development in the heart of the commercial capital – on reclaimed land adjoining the Colombo Fort – with a spin off for Port City Colombo’s prospects as a hub for maritime tourism. Port City Colombo is expected to realise 1.4 billion dollars in foreign direct investments (FDI), and set new benchmarks for cosmopolitan lifestyles in the island and beyond, in addition to generating employment opportunities in the years ahead.
