Seventeen-year-old Yevan David made history by becoming the first Sri Lankan to win a race in a major international single seater series.
Born in the UK to Sri Lankan parents and raised in Singapore, Yevan’s passion for racing began at the age of six and has led him to compete internationally with notable achievements – including wins in Asia and Europe.
His breakthrough victory came at the EuroFormula Open in Monza in October, where he triumphed in wet conditions. Racing for Motopark, Yevan showcased his skill and composure, leading from the start and defending his position despite a few mistakes.
“It’s been a wonderful weekend and experience for me, and who knows, maybe you’ll see more of me in the future,” David said, after his victory.
Yevan outperformed seasoned competitors, including Fernando Barichello, son of renowned Formula 1 champion Rubens Barichello. His win marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka in motorsport, placing the country on the global racing map.
Representing Sri Lanka on the international stage, Yevan remains focussed on self-improvement and his future goals.
His dream is to one day race for Ferrari in Formula 1, following in the footsteps of his hero, Lewis Hamilton.
