Smoke & Bitters was recently ranked 86th on the extended World’s 50 Best Bars list – a premier guide to top bars across the globe – alongside renowned establishments in cities such as Melbourne, New York City, London, Tokyo and Mexico City.
The winners were decided by a voting panel comprising over 700 independent drinks experts, and renowned bartenders and educators, alongside award-winning drinks writers and cocktail specialists.
This recognition follows its impressive ascent on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, moving from No. 40 in 2023 to 29th in 2024, and earning the title of best bar in Sri Lanka for three consecutive years.
Cofounders Don Ranasinghe and Lahiru Perera opened the bar in Hiriketiya with an aim to offer a unique Sri Lankan culinary and cocktail experience.
All dishes are prepared over wood fire, either smoked or chargrilled, reflecting ‘Smoke’ in its name. ‘Bitters’ represents the cofounders’ dedication to crafting their own bitters from locally sourced ingredients.
Smoke & Bitters is renowned for its hospitality and guest collaborations, connecting international food and drink enthusiasts with local audiences. Don and Lahiru have also represented Sri Lanka at bar takeovers in Hong Kong, India and Singapore, showcasing the nation’s culinary offerings to the world.
